We are a growing team looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to join our cross-functional engineering team. The role is based out of the new Barcelona office (flexible remote options) and will report to one of our engineering managers. Do you want to help us shape the future of the logistics industry?

As a senior software engineer, you’ll work on designing and executing one or more core services, which are instrumental to sennder’s growth. You’ll have the opportunity to influence the design choices of migrating monolith to independent services, and the flexibility to optimize and improve existing code by identifying and fixing bugs.

You’ll be collaborating closely with our cross-functional teams (6-10 ppl) to develop a solid microservice architecture. You’ll be recognized as an expert by the team, having the autonomy to deliver technically efficient and scalable solutions that have a direct business impact. Our DevOps culture empowers you to own the entire service lifecycle  (end-to-end) including infrastructure, supported by our dedicated platform team.

We have teams working with Python (Django, FastAPI) and others with TypeScript. Our current stack includes as well PostgreSQL, SQLAlchemy, AWS server-less (Lambdas, Eventbridge, DynamoDB),  Kafka, Docker, K8S, Terraform, GitLab.

In this role you will

  • Scale up our engineering organization, we have a lot of ideas and we are looking for people to evolve our backend, DevOps, and engineering practices to support the growth. We welcome new ideas!
  • Join the migration of our Django monolith to modular architecture and microservices.
  • Develop a robust microservice architecture. Currently, we are implementing service mesh, stable interfaces, metrics, and contracts for APIs.
  • Take a lead role in architecture’s design.
  • Lead mid-size projects from beginning to end.
  • Improve engineering standards, and processes to constantly increase efficiency.
  • Drive quality across the stack, following solid principles while providing detailed feedback to our colleagues.
  • Ensure effective communication with other pods and stakeholders.
  • Work closely with the product manager to plan shippable features for launch
  • Define and evolve best practices for development in your team's area of focus
  • Care about operational excellence, metrics, measurability and performance, and data-driven decision making

Preferably you have

  • Good practical experience (+5 years) in building backends applications. 
  • Solid Python OR TypeScript knowledge, and hands-on experience with common frameworks like FastAPI, Django REST, or similar.
  • Practical experience with the concept of OOP (SOLID 100%) and microservice architecture.
  • API-first! You know how to build modern RESTAPIs, fully documented by OpenAPI/Swagger.
  • You can talk to databases. We use Postgres and/or DynamoDB  in our monolith and microservices. 
  • You keep growing your knowledge of different architectures, patterns, and programming paradigms,
  • Practical skills with Docker, Kubernetes, and modern CI/CD,
  • Good communication skills in English.
